Meet The 20 Year Old Nigerian Girl Who Has Produced Songs For Jay Z. Drake And Rihanna
Naomi Oshunrinde, is a 19-year old Nigerian/Canadian producer better known as WondaGurl.
She has been quietly dominating the US music scene. She rose into the limelight at the age of 16 when she co-produced the song “Crown” on Jay Z’s album Magna Carta Holy Grail. From there on, she has worked with talents like Drake, Usher, Kanye West, and Rihanna.
Oshunrinde is self-taught. She started producing using her keyboard when she was only 9 years old. Later on, she downloaded music software and taught herself how to produce using YouTube videos.
She won the Battle of The Beat Makers competition in Canada when she was just 15.
She sent beats to Drake via Instagram, which ended up being in the songs, “Used To” and “Company.”
Speaking with Fader Magazine, about her future plans, Oshunride said:
“I dream about completely taking over the game, in a Timbaland kind of way.”
She says she was really inspired to produce after watching a video of Jay Z and Timbaland working together in the studio. Since then, she hasn’t held anything back. Her childhood prowess with computer programming, and her mastering of various software programs, made learning production easy for her.
